Over the weekend, 405 road accidents were recorded on Russian roads, in which 45 people were killed and 515 injured. 36 of the dead were drivers and passengers of vehicles. This was reported to Izvestia on Monday, March 17, by the State Traffic Inspectorate of the Russian Interior Ministry.

A truck collided with an Orlan RA-3 rail bus due to the fault of the driver of the car at a railway crossing in the Oryol region. During the daytime, on the Tutaev—Shopsha regional highway, a 30-year-old truck driver decided to skip a railroad crossing at a forbidding traffic light, but collided with a two-car rail bus. As a result of the accident, the driver and three passengers of the rail bus were injured and ended up in the hospital.

An analysis of accidents at railway crossings shows that such accidents most often occur at unregulated crossings, where drivers, not convinced of the safety of the maneuver, try to drive in front of a nearby train, the State Traffic Inspectorate said. Trying to gain a few seconds of travel, they often endanger not only their own lives, but also the lives and health of their own passengers, railway staff, passengers on commuter trains and long-distance trains. The department reminded motorists of the importance of observing the rules of passage of railway crossings, since this maneuver is considered dangerous and requires the driver to focus and pay maximum attention.

Over the past weekend, 20 accidents involving buses were recorded on the roads of the Russian Federation, in which two people were killed, and 22 more road users were injured. 15 bus accidents were caused by traffic violations committed by drivers of other vehicles. As a result of 93 accidents, 37 of which occurred at pedestrian crossings and 56 outside their area of operation, nine pedestrians were killed, and 86 more were injured in various degrees of severity. Among the injured were 18 children under the age of 16, half of whom were injured when crossing the roadway in designated places.

In the evening in Moscow, the driver of a car, being intoxicated, drove onto the sidewalk, where he hit four pedestrians, crashed into a city lighting mast and overturned on the roadway. An intoxicated motorist, his passenger, and four pedestrians were injured in the accident and were hospitalized.

53 accidents involving minors were registered, as a result of which 65 young road users were injured, 39 of them passengers. One child passenger was killed.

So, in the Rostov region, late in the evening on the regional highway "Vyoshenskaya — Kazanskaya", a 22-year-old car driver lost control and drove off the road, followed by a rollover. As a result of the accident, his 14-year-old passenger, who was in the back seat with her seat belt unbuckled, died. Two more passengers of the car were injured and, after receiving medical treatment, were sent for outpatient treatment.

The State Traffic Inspectorate drew the attention of parents to the need to ensure the safety of their children with the onset of the spring period, especially on weekends, when they spend a lot of free time outdoors, and as a result, they are more likely to get into car accidents. To improve the visibility of young pedestrians at night, retroreflective elements should be used on children's outerwear.

"Remember that the lack of parental control over the behavior and leisure of school-age children in the evening often leads to injuries or even death of young road users. According to operational information, in the first half of March, 480 accidents involving minors occurred on Russian roads, in which 7 children (6 passengers and 1 pedestrian) were killed, 526 more were injured in various degrees of severity, including 216 pedestrians and 269 passengers," the deputy head of the road safety propaganda department told Izvestia. traffic and prevention of child traffic injuries of the State Traffic Inspectorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia, Police Colonel Anton Belan.

On March 14, it was reported that a group of 97 State Duma deputies appealed to the Constitutional Court against the amendments to the Administrative Code, which increased fines for widespread traffic violations by 1.5–2 times from January 1, 2025, and reduced the discount for prompt payment of resolutions from 50 to 25%.
