The European Union (EU) has faced a number of difficulties in agreeing on a new €40 billion aid package for Ukraine. This was stated by the head of EU diplomacy, Kaya Kallas, at a meeting of the foreign ministers of the community countries.

She noted that there is general political support among EU countries on this issue, but there are still many details that need to be agreed.

"The defense ministers should speak on this topic, and we also intend to listen to their opinions," Kallas said.

In addition, the head of diplomacy recalled that at the EU summit on March 6, it was decided that a new tranche of aid to Ukraine should be provided "as soon as possible."

On March 14, it was reported that the EU intends to create a voluntary fund for military assistance to Ukraine in the amount of €20-40 billion to circumvent Hungary's veto. Each country will contribute to the fund depending on its "economic weight". The European Union itself will consider as its contribution €1.9 billion of profits from frozen Russian assets.
