The new week in Moscow began with a sudden change in the weather. On Monday, March 17, the capital was hit by a snowfall, accompanied by a blizzard. At the same time, the air temperature dropped to -2 degrees. Motorists were not prepared for the harsh weather conditions, and many drivers have already switched from winter tires to summer tires. The morning on the capital's roads began with multiple accidents. Details can be found in the Izvestia article.

Snowfall and blizzard in Moscow

On Sunday, March 16, a "yellow" weather hazard level was introduced in the Russian capital due to icy conditions. A message about this appeared on the official website of the Hydrometeorological Center. The warning will be valid until 9:00 a.m. on March 20.

On March 17, 2025, a sudden change in weather conditions occurred in Moscow. The morning started with heavy snowfall, which came as a surprise to many residents of the capital. According to the Hydrometeorological Center of Russia, the air temperature in the morning ranged from 0 to -2 degrees, light snow fell in places, and ice formed on the roads.

Most weather stations in Moscow and the Moscow region noted the formation of snow cover on March 17. In Moscow, it ranged from 2 cm in Tushino and at VDNKh to 4 cm in Baltschug and New Moscow. In the region, the highest snow cover was recorded in Kashira, it was 6 cm.

Massive road accidents due to bad weather

On Monday morning, March 17, due to difficult weather conditions, numerous traffic accidents occurred on the roads of Moscow and the region. On the outside of the 75th km of the MKAD, several vehicles were injured in an accident. This was reported in the Telegram channel of the Moscow Department of Transport. As a result of the incident, some lanes of the highway were closed.

An accident was also recorded on the 67th km of the MKAD, where at least 10 cars were involved in the collision. About ten cars were involved in an accident on Leningradskoye Highway near Mitino, but passengers and drivers managed to avoid serious injuries. The Center for Traffic Management (TSODD) recommended that drivers in Moscow give preference to urban transport whenever possible. This was announced by the metropolitan Department of Transport.

The data center stressed that snow continues to fall in the city, and ice may form on the roads, which requires increased attention while driving. Drivers were urged to be careful.

"Do not exceed the speed limit, keep a safe distance and do not be distracted by your phone while driving. Special attention should be paid to pedestrian crossings, bridges and overpasses," the appeal says.

The Department of Transport also noted that by evening there may be traffic difficulties in the central areas, on the Third Transport Ring and the MKAD.

Electric scooter and bicycle rental operators have put trips on hold until weather conditions improve. Driving in rain, snow, and ice can be unsafe. With the return of positive temperature, rental services will continue to operate.
