The US strikes on Yemen have become an instrument of American pressure on Iran over Tehran's nuclear program. However, Washington "may miscalculate," since the Middle Eastern state has been living under sanctions and hostilities for a long time. Political scientist Ivan Mezyuho told Izvestia on March 17.

According to him, the United States has set a course to eliminate various Iranian proxies in the form of military groups in different countries of the Middle East. Thus, the source stressed, Washington is trying to "tame Tehran and solve the issue of the Iranian nuclear program in an American way." In addition, he added, the United States intends to strengthen Israel in the long-standing conflict in the Middle East.

"Such a US policy can only lead to an escalation of tension, and I think that the Iranian proxies will attack American military installations in the Middle East, because today they have the appropriate forces and means. Of course, such a US policy only pushes Iran to deepen cooperation with sovereign centers of power such as Moscow and Beijing," the expert noted.

He noted that the United States considers itself capable of dealing with Iran from a position of strength, but it is possible that American President Donald Trump will eventually have to make concessions to Tehran. At the same time, Mezyuho believes, Iran may also make concessions.

"In the end, I do not rule out that Iran may conclude any kind of deal with the United States, including on the nuclear program, but subject to their national interests and their vision of the development of the situation in the Middle East. There are very difficult negotiations ahead, which will involve different players in the Middle East," he concluded.

Earlier, on March 11, the leader of the Yemeni Houthis from the Ansar Allah movement, Abdel Malik al-Houthi, said they were ready to resume attacks on Israeli ships after the four-day ultimatum on humanitarian aid access to the Gaza Strip expired.

Then, on March 15, Trump announced that he had ordered American troops to begin combat operations against the Houthis in Yemen. Al Masirah TV channel reported on March 16 that the US army carried out an airstrike on a power plant in Dhayan in the province of Saada in northern Yemen. On the same day, Ansar Allah announced that they would reach a new level of escalation in response. According to the latest data, 53 people were killed as a result of US strikes in Yemen.
