The calculation of the Molniya-2 unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) of the 11th engineering brigade of the Russian army hit a group of operators of FPV drones of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) in the Chasova Yar area. This was announced on March 17 by the Russian Defense Ministry.

"We have a combat position here. There we collect birds, equip them with various types of weapons (combat kit. — Ed.). Then we take the bird, take it out and start working directly on the enemy," said the commander of the UAV crew with the call sign Plastun.

The Molniya-2 UAV is an aircraft-type attack UAV that can be compared to the Lancet barrage ammunition. Only the "Lightning" is much cheaper and easier to operate, while its characteristics are in no way inferior to it, the department noted.

With the help of the Molniya-2 drone, Russian military personnel destroy equipment, temporary deployment points and personnel of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The "Lightning" is controlled, like the FPV drone, using a remote control and special glasses, and a pneumatic catapult is used to launch, which shoots the drone into the sky with a sharp air pressure. Unlike its predecessor, the Molniya-1, the Molniya-2 drone can carry a warhead weighing up to 6 kg, and it also has an increased flight range.

Weather conditions are an important factor that affects the effectiveness of tasks: wind strength, precipitation, and the direction of air flow. The group can make up to six flights per day. The crew consists of three fighters: a pilot, a loader and a sapper.

Each bird undergoes pre-flight control before taking to the sky. On average, this procedure takes 10-15 minutes. The fighters pay special attention to balancing the drone. This is necessary to ensure the stability of the UAV flight, reliability and safety of operation. It also reduces the likelihood of accidents and increases the accuracy of tasks.

On March 16, the Ministry of Defense reported that the operators of FPV drones of the Vostok group of forces had attacked the equipment and manpower of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the Yuzhnodonets direction. The ministry clarified that the drone operator found an enemy pickup truck on the road and struck it, then he destroyed several Ukrainian Armed Forces militants who did not have time to hide in the building.
