Metropolitan John of Korcin was elected Archbishop of Albania. This was announced on March 16 by the Synod of the Orthodox Autocephalous Church of Albania.

"After prayer, the members of the Holy Synod, chaired by the locum tenens of the Archdiocese, His Grace Metropolitan Bishop John of Korchinsk, unanimously elected Archbishop Anastasy as his successor by canonical vote," the publication says.

The election of the new archbishop took place after the death of Archbishop Anastasy of Tirana, Durres and All Albania. Five days of mourning were declared in honor of the late archbishop. The funeral took place on January 30. On January 25, Metropolitan Korchinsky became the locum tenens of the see of the Albanian Church.
