A march in honor of Latvian SS legionnaires was held in Riga.

A march in honor of the Latvian SS legionnaires was held in Riga on March 16. The marchers, including relatives of former legionnaires, nationalists and representatives of the Latvian authorities, marched through the city center and laid wreaths at the Freedom Monument.
The march was attended by Seimas deputy Janis Dombrava, Riga Vice Mayor Edwards Ratnieks, former Parliament Speaker Inara Murniece, as well as deputies Janis Witenbergs and Edvins Schnore, representing the national association.
The Latvian Legionnaires' Memorial Day is celebrated in Latvia on March 16. It was on this day in 1944 that the 15th and 19th SS Grenadier Divisions, which made up the Latvian SS Legion, first participated in combat operations against the advancing Red Army near the Velikaya River in the Pskov region.
Last year, Riga also hosted the traditional march in memory of the Latvian SS Legion. At the same time, on March 16, 2024, the Russian Embassy in Latvia informed Izvestia that fewer and fewer residents of the republic were participating in the annual march.
Later, on March 19, 2024, Dmitry Trapirov, chairman of the Council of the Israeli Anti-Fascist Movement, pointed out that the annual march in honor of SS legionnaires in Riga was completely unacceptable and absolutely unacceptable.
