The Emir of Qatar discussed with Manturov in Doha the strengthening of bilateral relations

On March 16, Emir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani held a meeting in Doha with First Deputy Prime Minister of Russia Denis Manturov, during which the parties discussed the development and strengthening of bilateral relations.

"During the meeting, [the parties] discussed bilateral relations between the two friendly countries and ways to strengthen and develop them, and also considered a number of issues of mutual interest," a statement on the website of the emir's office said.

Manturov, in turn, conveyed to the country's leader "warm greetings and best wishes from Russian President Vladimir Putin," his secretariat said. Chairman of the Council of Ministers, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Qatar Mohammed bin Abdul Rahman Al Thani also met with the head of the Russian delegation. For his part, he noted that Doha supports all initiatives to resolve the conflict in Ukraine.

It is noted that the parties discussed issues of bilateral cooperation in the fields of trade, investment and finance, transport and digital technologies, as well as in humanitarian projects, including culture, sports and education. Special attention was paid to industrial cooperation in such sectors as pharmaceuticals, shipbuilding, and energy engineering, including in the field of renewable energy.

In addition, Manturov invited Qatar's representatives to participate in the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) scheduled for June, the Russia–Islamic World International Economic Forum to be held in Kazan in May, the INNOPROM industrial Exhibition in Yekaterinburg in July and the Russian Energy Week in Moscow in October.

In addition, during the IPC, the Russian side announced a proposal to hold a Russian-Qatari business forum in Moscow in April 2025.

On February 26, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov also held a meeting with the Emir of Qatar in Doha. During the meeting, Lavrov conveyed the Russian leader's best wishes to the emir and said that his visit was expected in Moscow. Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, in turn, said that he expects to visit the Russian state on April 17.
