Actor Fedor Fedotov noted Ovechkin's leadership qualities

Alexander Ovechkin, the Russian forward of the Washington Capitals hockey club, shows outstanding leadership qualities as the main player of his club. This opinion was expressed on March 16 in an interview with Izvestia by actor Fedor Fedotov, who played the main role in the film "Silver Skates".
The actor said that he was actively involved in hockey as a child and dreamed of becoming a professional player. Ovechkin has always been Fedotov's idol, and now the actor watches all Washington's matches, having stopped rooting for other NHL clubs.
"He has always remained a leader in different squads of this team. <...> These leadership qualities are <...> what characterizes him as a true genius of this sport," the actor shared his observations.
Fedotov noted that Ovechkin's brilliant leadership style is evident even during his reckless race for Canadian Wayne Gretzky's record for goals in the National Hockey League (NHL) regular season. As the artist noted, a Russian hockey player is always ready to give his partner an assist instead of his own shot for the sake of another puck on the way to achievement.
"If we are talking about this pursuit of [Gretzky's] record, then, of course, human inner qualities are important — it is impossible without them either in sports or in acting. <...> And this, of course, we all admire," Fedotov said.
At the same time, noting the similarities between hockey and acting, the actor stressed that Ovechkin could easily play any classic character in the plays of the English playwright William Shakespeare and would probably sooner or later try his hand at cinema.
A day earlier, the Russian hockey player scored the 887th career goal in a match against the San Jose Sharks. The forward reduced the gap from the record of Canadian hockey player Wayne Gretzky to seven goals, and also surpassed him in goals in one calendar month.
