The Levotobi volcano has erupted in Indonesia. This was reported on March 16 by the ANTARA news agency.

According to the agency, the volcano spewed ash to a height of 2 km, and the authorities raised the eruption status to the fourth, highest danger level.

The eruption occurred after weeks of increased volcanic activity on a mountain located on the island of Flores in eastern Indonesia. This prompted the local government to issue an evacuation order for nearby villages.

"Residents of Mount Levotobi, as well as visitors and tourists, are not allowed to carry out any activity within a radius of four kilometers from the center of the eruption and a sectoral zone five kilometers northwest of the volcano," the agency reports, quoting the decree of the authorities.

Earlier, on January 16, it was reported that the Indonesian authorities announced the evacuation of more than 3,000 people after the eruption of Mount Ibu, located on the island of Halmahera. First of all, the authorities evacuated residents of the areas closest to the mountain. In total, about 13 thousand people live in the vicinity of Ibu.
