The Interior Ministry told about a new fraud scheme on behalf of mobile operators

Fraudsters can gain access to a SIM card and a mobile bank under the pretext of checking a phone line on behalf of a mobile operator. The Interior Ministry of Russia warned about this on March 16.
The department said that the attackers were calling from an unknown number, posing as engineers working for a mobile communications company, and talking about the need to check the phone line. To do this, they ask you to press a certain combination of numbers and symbols.
"You should not press the suggested combination of numbers or symbols, otherwise fraudsters will gain access to your SIM card and will make calls at your expense," TASS quotes the agency's materials.
The Interior Ministry added that fraudsters can even gain access to a subscriber's mobile bank in this way. The agency recommended that such calls be dropped immediately.
On March 15, the Interior Ministry warned against making calls in response to text messages from unknown numbers. According to the ministry, in the process of such conversations, attackers can debit funds from a subscriber's account. To do this, they use special services with a paid call.
