The destroyer USS Gravely was sent from the Yorktown Naval Base to the southern borders to ensure security and perform appropriate security tasks. This was announced on March 15 by the press service of the American Northern Command, citing General Gregory Guillot.

"The deployment of the USS Gravely will contribute to the fulfillment of the tasks of the US Northern command on the southern border as part of the coordinated efforts of the Ministry of Defense in response to the decree of [American] President [Donald Trump]. Gravely's maritime capabilities enhance our ability to defend the territorial integrity, sovereignty, and security of the United States," said the general of the Northern Command.

The ship will operate in U.S. and international waters. The deployment of the vessel to the southern border of the United States contributes to a "coordinated and decisive response to the fight" against maritime terrorism, arms proliferation, transnational crime, piracy, environmental destruction and illegal maritime immigration, the department said.

U.S. Vice President Jay Dee Vance said on March 5 that Trump hopes to build the entire wall along the southern border by the end of his term. He added that the White House administration is planning a large-scale application of artificial intelligence to improve border security.
