The Chief of Staff of the 22nd Motorized Rifle Regiment of the 44th Army Corps of the North group of forces with the call sign Mongoose told how he and his subordinates liberated the settlements of Novaya Sorochina, Staraya Sorochina and Malaya Loknya in the Kursk region from the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU). On March 16, the Russian Ministry of Defense published the relevant footage.

The soldier noted that the positions of the Ukrainian militants in this direction had been prepared in advance for defense.

"Apparently, since August, they have already foreseen the development of the situation in such a way that they will have to defend themselves along this particular line. The lines were prepared in advance, to the point that even concrete pillboxes (long-term firing points. — Ed.) were. Some strongholds were so well equipped that they even had baths there," he explained.

The chief of Staff added that the Russian military had a difficult time at first: it was necessary to navigate through postcards, rough terrain, and forests, hiding from enemy fire.

"We had to travel by postcards and over rough terrain and through forests in which they had observation posts. They shot everything with their artillery, every point. Any movement — they immediately began to fly there. Therefore, it was very difficult at first," he explained.

The military also pointed out the great contribution of artillery units and drone crews, with the support of which the regiment carried out its combat missions.

"I want to note the role of our drones and gunners. <...> Just jewelers, just great guys. Stormtroopers, it's much easier with them. Guys, thank you," he stressed.

The Defense Ministry added that units of the North group of forces continue to dislodge the enemy from populated areas and fortified positions in the Kursk region, seizing trophies and capturing the militants of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

On March 13, the ministry reported that the calculation of the Molniya-2 drones of the airborne artillery unit destroyed an armored combat vehicle of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the Sudzhansky district of the Kursk region. It was noted that the structure of the Molniya-2 drone allows it to reach a higher speed and fly away with a more powerful payload.
