Former German Chancellor Angela Merkel said that Russia is a huge and strong country that is admired by US President Donald Trump, her words were published on March 14 in the Berliner Zeitung newspaper.

"Russia is a huge country with a lot of minerals, a strong nuclear power with an overbearing president. And such a country is obviously admired by someone like Donald Trump," she said in an interview.

According to Merkel, Washington's position does not mean that it intends to do favors for Moscow, since the American leader primarily strives to achieve the interests of the United States, based on his slogan "Make America great again."

Also, in a conversation with the media, the former German Chancellor noted that Western countries need to take into account the Russian point of view. She added that understanding Russia's actions is a fundamental task for diplomats and politicians to discuss the interests of this state. In addition, Merkel criticized the meeting between Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky at the White House. She noted that she would not like to see this conversation.
