Ukraine has tested a Long Neptune missile with a flight range of 1,000 km, President Volodymyr Zelensky announced on March 15.

The Long Neptune has been tested and successfully used in combat. A new Ukrainian missile <...>. The distance is 1,000 km," he wrote on his Telegram channel.

Ukraine's alleged cruise missiles of a similar range were announced back in 2019 by Petro Poroshenko, who was then at the head of state. He also reported that there are plans to supply a complex of ground-based cruise missiles for hitting sea and coastal targets "Neptun".

On February 17, the Russian Defense Ministry reported that the air defense forces destroyed a guided Ukrainian Neptun-MD missile over the waters of the Sea of Azov. Prior to that, on February 4, the Ministry of Defense also reported the destruction of the Neptune missile over the territory of Russia.

The Neptune is a Ukrainian subsonic low—altitude missile designed to destroy ships with a displacement of up to 5,000 tons, as well as ground targets. It was developed at the Kiev Design Bureau "Luch" based on the Soviet X-35 rocket.
