Slovakia and Germany hope for the return of gas supplies from Russia. This was reported by Bloomberg on March 15.

"In the largest economy of the European Union, Germany, some industries are hoping for the return of Russian supplies, as high energy prices affect their ability to compete with foreign producers," the article says.

It is specified that, among other things, the countries of Eastern Europe, especially Slovakia, insist on the return of Russian pipeline transport volumes.

According to the agency, gas storage became an even bigger problem, as the continent was using up its reserves faster due to the cold winter. It is specified that a difficult and expensive replenishment season awaits Europe before the beginning of next winter.

At the same time, experts consider it unlikely that the continent will return to its previous supply volumes against the background of deteriorating relations between Europe and the Russian Federation, infrastructure problems, and the development by the European Union of a plan to phase out natural gas from Russia by 2027.

On February 19, Lithuanian member of the European Parliament (EP) Ludas Mazhilis said in an address to the European Commission (EC) that over the past year, gas imports from Russia to the EU have increased and continue to grow, despite anti-Russian sanctions. According to him, "in 2024, imports from Russia were higher than in 2023, and imports of natural gas, including liquefied natural gas (LNG), continued to grow in 2025."
