The United States has proposed a way to monitor compliance with the truce in Ukraine without peacekeepers

The trilateral commission will be able to monitor compliance with the truce between Russia and Ukraine using technical means. This opinion was expressed on March 15 by Thomas Graham, a researcher at the American Council on Foreign Relations and former assistant to U.S. President George W. Bush on Russia and Eurasia.

"It is necessary to create a military commission where it would be possible to raise questions about potential violations of the truce and decide who is responsible for them, and, more importantly, how to ensure that such incidents do not occur in the future," he said in an interview with RBC.

At the same time, he stressed that there would be no need for a peacekeeping contingent "on the ground" — there were already Russian and Ukrainian armies with their own technical means of control.

"I think it would be much better if this issue remained with the Ukrainians, Russians and Americans [without involving peacekeepers from third countries]," the expert noted.

Graham added that, in his opinion, the ceasefire is likely to be respected if there is political will on the part of the parties. At the same time, as indicated by "Газета.ги "before the start of the truce, Russia, Ukraine and the United States will have to agree on the actual line along which military operations will cease.

Russian President Vladimir Putin said on March 13 that he agreed with the proposal to cease hostilities in Ukraine. At the same time, he asked whether the Kiev regime would use the 30-day truce in its favor — whether the forced mobilization of Ukrainians and military support for Ukraine by the West would continue during this time. The Russian leader also asked how control and verification would be organized and what guarantees would be provided for compliance with the terms of the truce.
