The captain of the container ship Solong, which collided with a tanker off the coast of Great Britain, has been charged with gross negligence homicide. This was reported on March 14 on the website of the local police.

"The captain of the Solong vessel, 59-year-old Vladimir Motin from Primorsky, St. Petersburg, Russia, has been charged with manslaughter by gross negligence and has been taken into police custody," the statement said.

The captain will appear in court on March 15.

On March 10, a tanker and a cargo ship collided off the northeast coast of England. As a result of the incident, 32 people were injured.

On March 13, Russian diplomats held a telephone conversation with the detained ship's captain. According to the embassy, the Russian was provided with an interpreter and a lawyer.

At the same time, it was reported that there were five Russian citizens on board the container ship Solong. The embassy added that all the crew members are alive and unharmed, their condition is not cause for concern.
