Mikhail Sheremet, a deputy of the State Duma of the Russian Federation from the Crimean region, a member of the security Committee, said on March 15 that the defeat of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) in the border area of the Kursk region was a turning point in the conflict.

"The situation faced by the Ukrainian Armed Forces group in the Kursk region is a critical turning point," RIA Novosti quoted him as saying.

The MP also stressed that the current situation is the beginning of the end of the Kiev regime, and the West already understands and recognizes this.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on March 14 that Russian President Vladimir Putin's proposal to Ukrainian militants to lay down their arms in the Kursk region remains in force, but the time to accept it is shortening.

Earlier, on March 14, Putin guaranteed Ukrainian militants in the Kursk region life and decent treatment if they laid down their arms and surrendered. However, for this to happen, the appropriate order must be given by the military and political leadership in Kiev, the Russian president stressed. In this way, Putin responded to the call of US President Donald Trump, who offered to "spare" the Ukrainian formations in the Kursk region.
