Fraudsters ask victims to call back to an unknown number and, after holding on the line for a long time, they debit funds from the subscriber's account. The Russian Interior Ministry warned about this on March 15.

The department noted that now attackers often send SMS messages asking them to call back, rather than dial subscribers themselves.

"The request can be justified for any reason: helping a friend, changing communication tariffs, problems with communication or with your bank card, and so on," the agency's materials, reviewed by RIA Novosti, say.

Then, during the conversation, the scammers use various methods to keep the victim on the line in order to debit a large amount from the subscriber's account. For this purpose, special services with a paid call are used.

The Interior Ministry clarified that such services have an entertainment function and because of this, they additionally charge for the call itself, while always informing the client about the withdrawal of funds.

"However, fraudsters register such a service and distribute the number without warning about the cancellation of the call fee," the agency stressed.

On March 13, the UBK of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia warned citizens that fraudsters were sending messages about the death of friends containing malicious files in the Telegram messenger. The ministry urged users to be vigilant and carefully check incoming information.
