- Die Zeit has learned about Germany's approval of a new package of military aid to Ukraine

German parliamentary factions have approved the allocation of a new package of military assistance to Ukraine in the amount of € 3 billion. This was reported on March 14 by the newspaper Die Zeit.
According to the newspaper, the additional funding became part of a comprehensive financial package agreed by the parties of the Christian Democratic Union (CDU), the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD) and the Greens.
CDU leader Friedrich Merz said that German Chancellor Olaf Scholz approved the allocation of funds after the provision of additional defense and infrastructure spending in Ukraine is finally approved.
Alice Weidel, chairman of the Alternative for Germany (AfD) party, said on March 13 that Merz was trying to carry out a "financial coup" in order to increase military spending and help Ukraine. According to Weidel, Merz deceived voters by agreeing with the Social Democrats on a reform that would circumvent borrowing restrictions and direct hundreds of billions of euros to defense.
