Former German Chancellor Merkel urged to take into account the interests of Russia

Western countries need to take into account the Russian point of view. This was stated on March 14 by former German Chancellor Angela Merkel in an interview with Berliner Zeitung.
"A discussion about Russia's interests should take place," the politician said.
She added that understanding Russia's actions is a fundamental task for diplomats. Politicians need to think about the interests of this state.
In addition, the former chancellor noted that Russia is a strong country with a huge amount of resources, which is of interest to the American leader Donald Trump. In addition, she criticized the meeting between Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky at the White House. Merkel said she would not like to see this meeting.
Merkel also rejected criticism of her own decisions at the time when she was Chancellor of Germany, including on Nord Stream 2.
"I recommend diving into the time you were in back then. And I still advise you not to say right away if a different point of view arises today that the wrong decision was made then. At least, I don't accept it for myself," Merkel said.
Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said on March 13 that Russia notes the positive rhetoric from the US administration on issues of bilateral relations, but will judge it on specific cases.
