Residents evacuated from the town of Sudzhi, liberated from the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) in the Kursk region, told Izvestia how they met the Russian military who came to the settlement through a gas pipe.

"Both cold and hunger set up the stoves. In seven months, I understand how it is. That's why when our guys came, I was so glad," Valentina Glushchenko shared.

According to her, the Russian military came "dirty," and she wanted to heat the water so they could wash.

"No, no, no, babulechka, we have come to liberate," the woman cites the answer of the servicemen.

Glushchenko noted that only ruins remained of the city. Ukrainian militants burned and looted everything, and the woman also heard rumors of murders and rapes.

Bohdan Belobrov and Olesya Rylska, in turn, noted that a few days before the liberation, they saw small groups of Ukrainian militants leaving the city. They noted that the residents of Sudzha had not stopped waiting for the Russian military for seven months.

"We look out the window — there is a group of about five people. I took a closer look, they have red bandages on their arm and leg. <...> Later we found out that they were crawling 15 km through the pipe. We gave them stews, water, somehow, because the boys didn't want to take anything at all," they said.

In addition, local resident Alexandra Prokopova reported that in winter there was practically nothing to eat except stew, and the house was so cold that steam was coming out of her mouth. However, she still took the surviving rabbit with her.

"Like my child. I can't do anything else with animals," the woman added.

Prokopova also stressed that the arrival of Russian fighters was a great joy.

"I was walking to my neighbor's house, then I heard a man's voice. I went up to them and hugged them. They had red armbands. On the hands and feet. I said, "Guys, we've been waiting for you for a long time," she recalls with tears.

Currently, the evacuated residents of Suji are being housed in temporary accommodation centers, where psychologists are working with them.

On March 10, it became known about the operation "Pipe" to introduce the Russian military into the depth of the defense of the Armed Forces of Ukraine near the city of Sudzhi. To do this, the military overcame about 15 km of the pipeline. The actions of the stormtroopers helped ensure the breakthrough of the enemy's defenses by the advancing troops of the Russian army. Later on March 13, the Russian Defense Ministry announced the liberation of the settlement from the Ukrainian Armed Forces. At the same time, footage from the destroyed Suji was published.
