Bild has learned about the plans of the German authorities to return hundreds of thousands of refugees to Syria

Germany plans to negotiate with the new Syrian authorities on the return of about 974,000 refugees to the SAR. This was reported on March 14 by the Bild newspaper with reference to a representative of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the country.

"The Ministry of the Interior is in contact with the Syrian Transitional Government, including to discuss the return of Syrian refugees to Germany," the newspaper quoted him as saying.

It is clarified that the head of the ministry, Nancy Feather, is preparing to negotiate a corresponding agreement with the interim president of Syria, Ahmed al-Sharaa. Since December 2024, the Interior Ministry, together with the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees (BAMF), has been developing a proposal for the mass return of Syrians.

The RND newspaper reported on February 9 that, according to a German government report, illegal arrivals from Syria accounted for 20.6%. On January 17, it also became known that the German authorities are ready to pay €1,700 each to migrants who want to return to the SAR. In addition, residents can apply to cover air tickets and other transportation costs.
