British police have filed charges against the Russian captain of the Solong vessel.


Vladimir Motin, the captain of the Solong container ship that collided with an oil tanker near the coast of Great Britain, was charged. This was announced on March 14 by the press service of the British Humberside County police.
"Solong captain Vladimir Motin, 59, from the Primorsky district of St. Petersburg, Russia, has been charged with negligent manslaughter," the press service said in a statement.
It is specified that the ship's captain will remain in custody at the Kingston upon Hull court. The first hearing in his case will be held at the Magistrate's court on March 15.
On the same day, Russian diplomats had a telephone conversation with the captain of the Solong vessel. According to the embassy, the Russian was provided with an interpreter and a lawyer. At the same time, it was reported that there were five Russian citizens on board the container ship Solong, one of whom was the ship's captain. The embassy added that all the crew members are alive and unharmed, their condition is not cause for concern.
