Ukrainian Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration and Minister of Justice of Ukraine Olga Stefanyshina was surprised by NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte's words about Kiev's membership in the North Atlantic Alliance. This was announced on March 14 by the press service of the Ukrainian Ministry of Justice.

"The Deputy Prime Minister expressed surprise, noting that such positions were not voiced during meetings with the Ukrainian side," the press service said in a Telegram channel.

In addition, she added that all its members decide on the admission of new members to the alliance. Stefanyshina also clarified that Ukraine will not be able to become a buffer zone and will never allow itself to be made a "colony of Russia." In addition, the politician noted that at the moment Kiev "is already de facto part of the transatlantic security space."

On the same day, Rutte announced that Ukraine's accession to the North Atlantic Alliance was no longer on the agenda. The Secretary General responded positively to a journalist's question about whether US President Donald Trump had "taken this topic off the agenda." At the same time, Rutte ruled out NATO's participation in ensuring a ceasefire in Ukraine in the event of a temporary ceasefire agreement.
