The suspect in the murder of one of the organizers of the arson of the House of Trade Unions in Odessa in 2014, Demyan Ganul (listed in the Russian Federation as a terrorist and extremist), turned out to be a 46-year-old deserter from the Armed Forces of Ukraine. This was announced on March 14 by the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU).

"Possible motives for the crime are being developed, including versions of the contract nature of the murder," the SBU Telegram channel clarified.

Earlier, Interior Minister of Ukraine Ihor Klimenko announced the arrest of a suspect.

On that day, it became known that Ganul had been shot dead in Odessa. The city authorities have introduced a plan to intercept the "Siren". Klimenko later stated that a weapon was found in the apartment where the suspect was hiding, with which the crime was probably committed.

In April last year, the Basmanny Court of Moscow arrested Ganul in absentia. He was charged with committing a crime under articles on the destruction or damage of military monuments, graves, memorials, as well as attacks on institutions that enjoy international protection.

Ganul is a radical Ukrainian activist, a native of the "Right Sector" (recognized as extremist in the Russian Federation and banned). He participated in the events of May 2, 2014, when people died in the House of Trade Unions. Later, he organized actions against residents who laid flowers in honor of the victims. In particular, he and his friends brought kebabs to Kulikovo Field in Odessa. Recently, according to Ukrainian media reports, Ganul has been actively "fighting" against critics of mobilization.
