Mine clearance operations have begun in the liberated territory of the Kursk region, acting head of the region Alexander Khinshtein said on March 14.
"The engineering troops have already begun mine clearance of the liberated territory," he wrote on the Telegram channel.
He added that from March 15 until the end of the work, the entrance to the border area will be temporarily closed, as it is now extremely dangerous to stay there.
On March 12, Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, Army General Valery Gerasimov, announced in a report to Russian President Vladimir Putin that the Russian Armed Forces had liberated more than 1,100 square kilometers of territory in the Kursk border region. He added that Kiev's plans for the Kursk region had failed.
Gerasimov also said that the Ukrainian Armed Forces suffered heavy losses during the liberation of Malaya Lokna in the Kursk region by the Russian military. According to him, the relatively small Kursk bridgehead of the Ukrainian army accounts for about 19% of losses from the entire operation area, as well as more than 40% of personnel and more than 40% of losses in equipment.
Putin said on March 13 that the situation in the Kursk region is completely under the control of the Russian military. At the same time, the grouping of the Armed Forces of Ukraine is now in complete isolation.
