Russian diplomats held a telephone conversation with a Russian citizen detained in the UK, the captain of the Solong vessel, which collided with a tanker off the coast of Britain. This was announced on March 14 on the website of the Russian Embassy in London.
"On the evening of March 13 this year, diplomats from the consular department of the embassy had a detailed telephone conversation with the ship's captain. According to him, he feels well," the message says.
According to the embassy, the Russian citizen has been provided with an interpreter and a lawyer.
The diplomatic mission stressed that they are in close cooperation with the British competent authorities, as well as with the spouse of the detainee.
Earlier in the day, it was reported that five Russian citizens were on board the container ship Solong. The embassy added that all the crew members are alive and unharmed, their condition is not cause for concern.
On March 10, a tanker and a cargo ship collided off the northeast coast of England. According to the Reuters news agency, a helicopter, an airplane, rescue boats and vessels equipped with fire extinguishing equipment were sent to the incident area. As a result of the incident, 32 people were injured, the Sky News channel noted.
