Fuel is one of the main items of expenditure for corporate fleets. Fuel costs can reach up to 90% of the cost of maintaining cars. At the same time, a common problem is overspending, which is the result of not only technical malfunctions, but also fuel draining by unscrupulous drivers. So, car park owners can lose 40% of their profits on fuel theft, Mikhail Komarov, the creator of the UniFlit fleet management automation program, told Izvestia on March 17.

The expert named several ways to track fuel consumption. The simplest system is to record the mileage of the vehicle and its ratio to the filled fuel, the volume of which is confirmed by receipts from the gas station. So the consumption is calculated by the ratio of liters to mileage. However, even without fraud on the part of drivers, the margin of error with this method of accounting is 15-20%. There is also room for various fraudulent schemes that allow you to drain fuel and provide fake receipts, as well as use cars for personal purposes.

Fuel cards are the simplest tool for tracking expenses at gas stations, the expert noted. This method allows you to exclude the submission of fictitious checks by drivers. Fleet managers receive a tool for strict accounting of gas stations to compare them with vehicle mileage. Also, through the introduction of fuel cards, fleet managers can set up refueling limits, set a specific time when it is allowed to replenish fuel, and identify gas stations, which reduces the likelihood of unauthorized fuel use.

Other ways are satellite tracking of the car and connecting trackers to the CAN bus of cars to record movement routes and speeds, as well as using fuel consumption sensors and flow meters, Komarov noted.

On March 10, experts from the HSE Institute of Transport Economics and Transport Policy said that the federal state budget would lose about 350 billion rubles over three years if the taxi localization requirement came into force. The draft law on the introduction of requirements for the localization of taxi cars is being discussed in the State Duma. It was adopted in the first reading last year, and is now being prepared for the second reading. The introduction of such requirements will become an additional protection for the taxi transportation industry, Maxim Sokolov, head of AvtoVAZ, said earlier.
