Degtyarev thanked Hungary for its position on the protection of Olympic values

On March 14, Mikhail Degtyarev, Minister of Sports and President of the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC), thanked the Hungarian authorities for their political position on protecting Olympic values.
"I thank the Hungarian side for its consistent political position on the protection of Olympic values. Sport is an important component of diplomacy, it should be outside politics and unite people, not separate them," Degtyarev wrote on his Telegram channel.
According to him, Russia has the right to defend its interests in sports. He added that now the main goal of the Ministry of Sports of the Russian Federation is to return the national team of the country to all international competitions.
On the same day, Barron's magazine reported that the European Union (EU) lifted sanctions against four Russians. According to the publication, they were talking about Degtyarev, businessmen Vyacheslav Kantor and Vladimir Rashevsky, the sister of the oligarch Alisher Usmanov.
On March 10, Euractiv reported that the EU was alarmed by Hungary's possible attempt to disrupt the extension of anti-Russian sanctions. It is clarified that at the EU summit on March 6, Budapest refused to sign the final statement on sanctions. According to Euractiv, it is impossible to extend them without Hungary's consent..
