UN judge Lydia Mugambe was found guilty by the British Oxford Royal Court of forcing a young Ugandan woman into slave labor, the Independent reported on March 13.

"Lydia Mugambe took advantage of her status advantage over the victim, preventing her from having a permanent job and forcing her to work as a maid and nanny for children," the newspaper writes, citing a statement from prosecutors.

According to prosecutors, Mugamba exploited and abused the woman, taking advantage of her "lack of understanding of her rights to a properly paid job" and deceiving her about the purpose of her arrival in the kingdom. A UN judge specifically arranged for a young woman to come to the UK from Uganda in order to force her to work for herself for free.

Mugambe denies that she forced the woman to do housework. It is specified that the judge's verdict should be handed down on May 2.

Earlier, on November 10, 2024, Reuters reported that the prosecutor of the International Criminal Court (ICC), Karim Khan, would be subject to an external investigation into allegations of sexual harassment. Then he was asked to leave his position. Khan refused to resign on November 12 while he is being investigated for misconduct.
