The Palestinian Hamas movement has declared its readiness to release an Israeli hostage with US citizenship, as well as to hand over the bodies of four dead prisoners with dual citizenship. This was announced on Friday, March 14, according to a statement from the movement.

Hamas clarified that it was ready to hand over the hostages after receiving an offer from the mediators the day before to resume negotiations.

"We agree to release Israeli soldier Edan Alexander, who also holds American citizenship, and hand over the bodies of the four dead hostages, who also had dual citizenship," the movement's Telegram channel said.

According to The Times of Israel newspaper, an Israeli soldier was captured by Hamas on the morning of October 7, 2023, when he was near the Gaza Strip. The names of the four killed have not been released.

On March 13, CNN, citing a source close to the negotiations, reported that the US special envoy had submitted to Israel and Hamas a new proposal for the Gaza Strip, ensuring the release of hostages held in the enclave in exchange for an extension of the ceasefire in Gaza. It was clarified that the exact number of living and dead hostages that Hamas must release during the extended truce, as well as the number of Palestinian prisoners that Israel must release, remain the subject of negotiations.

Hamas spokesman Abdel Latif Al-Kana said on March 8 that the efforts of the mediators to finalize the ceasefire agreement in Gaza were continuing and there were positive signs of the start of the second phase of negotiations.
