Belarus is ready to provide cargo escort in the Baltic with the help of warships in response to threats from Western countries. This was announced on March 14 by the President of the Republic Alexander Lukashenko.

He noted that this issue had been discussed with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

"I say, well, Vladimir Vladimirovich, there is only one thing left — we will be escorted by warships. How could it be otherwise," Lukashenko said during his speech at the Federation Council.

On February 6, Nikolai Patrushev, Assistant to the President of Russia and chairman of the Russian Maritime Board, said that NATO was trying to block Russia in the Baltic Sea, as well as paralyze the work of ports in the Leningrad and Kaliningrad regions. In his opinion, such a policy negatively affects the reliability and safety of cargo and passenger transportation, in addition, it destroys the global system of merchant shipping.
