BMW Group is not responsible for the cars assembled at the Avtotor plant in Kaliningrad after the company leaves the Russian Federation. Such cars cannot be equated to BMW, officially assembled for the Russian market, company representatives said on March 14.

BMW stressed that cars assembled at the plant, which is not part of the concern's unified production network, "cannot meet the strict quality and safety standards of the BMW Group," RIA Novosti notes, referring to the concern's letter.

As indicated, we are talking about the X5, X6 and X7 models, "made from machine kits remaining after the end of the production and supply contract in March 2022." Representatives of the German manufacturer believe that the operation of such vehicles can pose potential risks to the life and health of their drivers, passengers and other road users.

The BMW Group said that the Russian plant assembled and commissioned the brand's cars without the approval and participation of the German concern, which owns the trademark and intellectual property rights. Thus, BMW cars assembled at Avtotor's facilities cannot be covered by an official warranty after 2022. Avtotor declined to comment on reports about the release of a batch of BMW cars.

Earlier in the day, it was reported that by the end of 2024, 181.2 thousand new passenger cars were imported into Russia under alternative import schemes. The top ten most popular models are the BMW X5 and X7. The Toyota Camry is the leader.
