- Lukashenko spoke about the discussion with Putin on the construction of a second nuclear power plant in Belarus

Belarus has asked Russia to build a second nuclear power plant (NPP). This was announced by President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko on March 14.
"We discussed the second plant yesterday. If Belarus needs nuclear energy or electricity in general, we will build it. If not, why build? The right approach," Lukashenko said at a speech at the Federation Council of the Russian Federation.
He also noted that the demand for electricity consumption is increasing in the country. This is also due to the construction of residential areas, because they are heated by electricity.
According to him, Belarus is ready to carry out construction work itself, except for the creation of a reactor and turbines.
"We can build it on our eastern borders. If, suddenly, Bryansk and other regions, we will be able to provide new regions of Russia with electricity," the Belarusian leader stated.
On March 13, Rosatom CEO Alexey Likhachev told a correspondent of Izvestia about the details of discussing the construction of a second nuclear power plant in Belarus. Russia will be guided by the customer's opinion as part of the project implementation.
