Two Ukrainian soldiers who were captured in the Kursk region were sentenced to 16 years

The court sentenced Andrei Anisimov and Dmitry Labunsky, captured soldiers of the armed formations of Ukraine (VFU), to 16 years in prison for a terrorist attack in the Kursk region. This was reported on March 14 by the Investigative Committee of Russia (IC).

According to law enforcement agencies, in August 2024, armed fighters of the VFU illegally crossed the border of the Russian Federation. Anisimov and Labunsky, who served in the 22nd separate mechanized brigade of the Far Eastern Federal University, while in the Korenevsky and Sudzhansky districts of the Kursk region, threatened with weapons, intimidated the local population, illegally lived in private homes, prevented the evacuation of civilians, and also repeatedly opened fire on Russian military personnel and civilians.

"On August 10, 2024, during the fighting, Anisimov and Labunsky were detained by servicemen of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation," the UK Telegram channel says.

The court sentenced two soldiers to 16 years in prison to serve the first three years in prison, and the rest of the term in a high—security penal colony, paragraphs "a", "b", part 2 of art. 205 of the Criminal Code ("Terrorist act").

Earlier, on January 4, two VFU militants were accused of committing a terrorist attack in the Kursk region. The servicemen are charged under clauses "a" and "b" of Part 2 of Article 205 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation) in the territory of the Kursk region. According to the investigation, in August 2024, Alexander Manko and Yuri Radchenko illegally crossed the border of the Russian Federation. While in the Sudzhansky district of the Kursk region, armed with AK-74 assault rifles and explosive devices, they intimidated the local population, occupied private houses and repeatedly opened fire on Russian Armed Forces soldiers and civilians.
