It is possible to accelerate the swelling of the buds of a tree, but it is important to do this carefully so as not to harm the plant. Roman Oparin, Associate Professor of the Department of General Biology and Bioecology at the State University of Education, told Izvestia about this on March 18.

"If the tree grows in the shade, try pruning the bushes and trees growing nearby if they interfere with the light. You can also whitewash the trunk and main branches — this will help to warm up faster in the sun. It is worth installing reflective screens on the sunny side to direct more light onto the tree. It can be a white cloth or foil," he said.

In addition, in early spring, you can water the tree with slightly warm water (+20... +25°C), especially if the winter was cold. This will help the kidneys to wake up, the specialist emphasized. Using biostimulants of growth, such as epin, will reduce stress from the cold. Zircon, in turn, will improve the awakening of the kidneys, and humates (potassium humate, sodium humate) — the growth of roots and shoots.

In addition, dry and weak branches should be pruned, Oparin recommended. Light sanitary pruning will improve juice circulation, which can accelerate kidney swelling. If the spring is cold, you can mulch the trunk circle with dark organic materials (peat, humus, compost) so that the soil warms up faster.

"Is it worth rushing the tree? If the tree is healthy and developing normally, it is better not to interfere — too sudden awakening can lead to kidney damage in sudden frosts. But if the delay is severe compared to other plants, you can gently stimulate this process," Oparin concluded.

On March 14, Marina Tatarenko, a biologist at the Department of Teaching Methods of the Faculty of Natural Sciences of the State University of Enlightenment, told Izvestia about how to plant dahlias and gladioli in spring. According to her, it is worth buying them exclusively this season, as other bulbous and tuberous flowers are planted in winter. Dahlias and gladioli need to be planted when the average daily temperatures steadily reach +10... +12 degrees, the earth has warmed up well, and there is no possibility of recurrent frosts, the biologist noted.
