Over the past day, 246 road accidents have occurred on Russian roads, killing 28 people and injuring 287 others. 21 of the victims were passengers and drivers of vehicles. This was reported to Izvestia on Friday, March 14, by the State Traffic Inspectorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.

As a result of 81 accidents, 34 of which occurred at pedestrian crossings and 47 outside their area of operation, seven pedestrians were killed, and 75 more were injured in various degrees of severity. Among the injured were 11 child pedestrians, six of whom were injured while crossing the roadway in places not designated for this purpose. So, in Novokuznetsk in the evening, a passenger car driver ran over a 10-year-old schoolboy who suddenly ran out into the roadway in front of the vehicle in the absence of an organized pedestrian crossing in the visible area. As a result of the accident, a third-grader was hospitalized with injuries.

In addition, in Balashikha, Moscow region, during the daytime, a passenger car driver ran over two underage pedestrians (born in 2010 and 2014) who were crossing the roadway at an unregulated pedestrian crossing on a rental electric scooter. The students were injured and, after receiving medical treatment, were sent for outpatient treatment.

Over the past day, 25 accidents involving minors have been registered, as a result of which 26 young road users, including nine passengers, were injured. One child passenger was killed.

So, in the evening in Primorsky Krai, on the 475th km of the federal highway A-370 "Ussuri" Khabarovsk - Vladivostok, a 38–year-old motorist, who was brought to administrative responsibility a few days ago for failing to comply with the requirement to undergo a medical examination for intoxication, drove into the oncoming lane while overtaking, where he collided with a truck. The accident killed both the perpetrator of the accident and his five-year-old girl passenger, who was in the back seat without using a child restraint device. Another passenger in the passenger car was injured and ended up in the hospital.

On the eve of the weekend, the State Traffic Inspectorate urged drivers, in conditions of changing seasons and still unstable weather, to observe driving discipline, reduce speed in advance and increase the distance to the vehicles in front, to abandon frequent lane changes, sudden maneuvers and overtaking, as well as strictly comply with traffic regulations related to the start of traffic, lane changes, turns, U-turns and stops.

"We remind motorists that the lives and health of their passengers depend entirely on the skills, driving experience, well-being and law-abiding behavior behind the wheel. Always leave yourself plenty of time to react adequately to a possible change in the traffic situation at any moment. We also draw the attention of drivers to the strict observance of the rules for transporting children. Take care of your young passengers, preventing even the prerequisites for a possible tragedy," Police Colonel Anton Belan, deputy head of the Department for Road Safety Promotion and prevention of child traffic injuries at the State Traffic Inspectorate of the Russian Interior Ministry, told Izvestia.

Earlier that day, Viktor Potapenko, founder of the Motostudy motorcycle driving school, a certified BMW Motorrad instructor, told Izvestia about the most common accidents in Russia involving motorcyclists. According to him, such accidents most often occur when a car turns from the oncoming lane — the driver of the car turns left, but does not notice the approaching motorcyclist.
