Representatives of the US Democratic Party are jeopardizing the work of the federal government by not agreeing on a bill on its financing. They are pushing the government to a shutdown in order to frame the administration of Republican President Donald Trump. Pavel Feldman, Candidate of Political Sciences, Professor at the Academy of Labor and Social Relations, shared this opinion in an interview with Izvestia on March 14.

The day before, Trump announced the risk of a shutdown of the federal government this week, stressing that the responsibility for this would fall on the Democratic Party. He also expressed the hope that the Democrats would still support the bill on the continuation of the government's work in the Senate.

Commenting on this, Feldman noted that the United States is on the verge of a shutdown every time it comes to approving the state budget. According to him, this problem has its roots in the fierce confrontation between the parliamentary parties, and the Republicans during the Democratic administration in the White House also sabotaged the bill on government financing.

"At the moment, the Democrats are using the threat of a shutdown as a way to annoy the Trump administration. By refusing to vote for the draft budget, they are deliberately pushing their country towards an administrative collapse, in which a significant part of civil servants will go on unpaid leave. America remains split into two political camps, and the enmity between them is becoming more acute," he explained.

Thus, the source stressed, 53 days after the inauguration, Trump will face his first very serious domestic political challenge. In fact, he noted, we are witnessing a rebellion of the deep state against the current president of the United States. In the near future, Americans will be forced to shift their attention from foreign policy issues to their internal problems, the political scientist added. At the same time, he concluded, it is impossible to predict whether the Democrats will give up and whether they will support the bill to prevent the shutdown.

The head of the US Treasury Department, Scott Bessent, said on March 13 that a possible suspension of the US government's work at the end of this week would be "incredibly devastating" for the country's economy. The New York Times reported on March 12 that there are not enough votes in the US Senate to approve a bill to finance the US government by September 30, as congressmen from the Democratic Party do not want to support this initiative.

The bill on financing the US government until September 30, 2025 was approved by the House of Representatives of the US Congress on March 12. The U.S. Senate is scheduled to vote on the bill by March 14. The Democrats have already announced their intention to vote against.
