In the Arkhangelsk region, the court recognized the crimes of the German Nazis in the region during the Great Patriotic War (WWII) as genocide of the peoples of the USSR. The Russian Prosecutor General's Office announced this on February 14.

The corresponding statement was previously prepared and sent to the court on behalf of the Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation Igor Krasnov.

"The evidence presented to the court confirms the facts of the attack by Nazi aircraft and navy on the towns and villages of the region, fishing posts, polar stations, ships of the Northern Transport Fleet," the agency's website says.

Crimes committed in the Novaya Zemlya archipelago, in the White, Barents, and Kara Seas were also recognized as genocide.

During the Second World War, more than 19 thousand people died as a result of air raids on populated areas in the region, as well as due to famine. The Nazis caused damage to the infrastructure in the amount of over 700 billion rubles in the current exchange rate.

State authorities, law enforcement agencies, various institutions and volunteers were involved in collecting evidence of the genocide of the peoples of the USSR. Among the evidence presented to the court were witness statements, archival and other documents.

On March 13, the Prosecutor General's Office of the Russian Federation announced the recognition of the crimes of the Nazis on the territory of North Ossetia during the Second World War as genocide. At that time, citizens were subjected to violence for almost two months, pensioners and children were brutally murdered. The total number of dead was more than 2.3 thousand people. More than 1.6 thousand citizens were taken away against their will to Germany.
