A Ukrainian citizen was detained at Sheremetyevo Airport who was trying to illegally smuggle $70,000 from Qatar to Russia. This was announced on March 14 by the Federal Customs Service (FCS) of the Russian Federation.
"The inspectors stopped the man in the "green" corridor, where, during an oral interview, he stated that he had cash and provided it for counting," the Telegram channel says.
The citizen was refunded $ 10,000 against receipt, as this amount is allowed to move across the customs border without declaration.
A criminal case was opened under Part 2 of Article 200.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Large-scale cash smuggling"). A man can face up to four years in prison or a fine of ten to fifteen times the amount of illegally transferred currency.
On March 6, customs officers at Sheremetyevo Airport found 10.5 thousand silver jewelry worth about 2 million rubles in the luggage of a foreign citizen who arrived from China. According to the detainee, he intended to sell these ornaments in Yerevan. A criminal case has been opened in connection with the smuggling of strategically important goods. A foreigner may face punishment in the form of imprisonment for up to five years or a fine of up to 1 million rubles.
