Representatives of Kiev proposed to their colleagues from Washington to sign a deal on joint mining during the negotiations of the delegations in Saudi Arabia, but the Americans rejected the initiative, taking a pause for thought. This was reported on March 14 by the Ukrainian Public television channel, citing a source.

"The agreement was approved by the Ukrainian government, so we put it on the table so that they (the American delegation. — Ed.) returned to Washington with a concrete result," the source said.

According to him, after this proposal was put forward, the American delegation took a break. This decision may be due to the fact that the United States wants to sign a ready-made document right away, rather than its framework version, a TV channel source suggested.

On March 11, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced that American Leader Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky had instructed their teams to resume work on the joint mining deal and finalize it. The day before, the US president's special envoy for the Middle East, Steven Witkoff, noted that the United States hoped for progress on signing a deal with Ukraine on rare earth minerals this week. At the same time, Trump said he was still waiting for the signing of a deal on minerals.
