The head of the Pentagon, Pete Hegseth, ordered the disbandment of the Office of Network Assessment (ONA), created in 1973 by order of former American leader Richard Nixon. The corresponding statement was published on March 13 on the agency's website.

At the same time, it is specified that the development of a management restoration plan has begun in accordance with the strategic priorities of the Ministry.

"This decision ensures that our resources will be directed to addressing the most pressing national security challenges while maintaining accountability and effectiveness," the Pentagon said.

The department added that all ONA employees will be transferred to currently important positions. This office provided long-term comparative assessments of trends, key competitors, risks, opportunities, and future prospects for U.S. military capabilities.

On March 5, The Wall Street Journal reported on US President Donald Trump's plans to eliminate the country's Ministry of education. Later, on March 12, the press service of the department announced the expected reduction of almost 50% of employees. It was noted that the employees who have been laid off will be placed on administrative leave from March 21.
