Residents and visitors of Crimea will benefit from the development of freight and passenger rail links connecting the central part of Russia and the peninsula with new territories, the head of the republic, Sergey Aksenov, said in an interview with Izvestia.

"This will provide convenient communication with the cities of the Azov-Black Sea region: Taganrog, Mariupol, Berdyansk, Melitopol. There will be additional opportunities for moving goods by rail. Now they are being delivered via the Crimean Bridge. The new railway route simplifies logistics links for industrial and agricultural enterprises located in the northern part of the peninsula," he explained.

Aksyonov noted that this would also reduce the running time of long-distance trains to Crimea and help develop the peninsula's tourism industry.
