The US Special Envoy has conveyed to Israel and the Palestinian movement Hamas a new proposal for the Gaza Strip, ensuring the release of hostages held in the enclave in exchange for the extension of the ceasefire in Gaza. CNN reported this on March 13, citing a source close to the negotiations.

"The exact number of living and dead hostages that Hamas must release during the extended ceasefire, as well as the number of Palestinian prisoners that Israel must release, remain the subject of negotiations," the source said.

Thus, the source noted that, according to the proposal of the American side, the extension of the ceasefire will last until the end of Passover, which will extend the pause in hostilities, as well as resume the supply of humanitarian aid for a month.

Hamas spokesman Abdel Latif Al-Kana said on March 8 that the efforts of the mediators to finalize the ceasefire agreement in Gaza were continuing and there were positive signs of the start of the second phase of negotiations. The next day, Israeli Energy Minister Eli Cohen announced that they would stop supplying electricity to the Gaza Strip as part of a step-by-step plan to put pressure on the Palestinian Hamas movement.
