- Russians and Belarusians will be able to participate in local elections in both countries.

Citizens of Russia and Belarus have received equal rights to participate in local elections in the two countries. This was stated on March 13 by Russian President Vladimir Putin at a press conference following talks with Belarusian leader Alexander Lukashenko.
According to Putin, the protocol on amendments to the 1998 treaty establishes the right of citizens of Russia and Belarus permanently residing in the territory of another state to be elected and be elected to local governments.
The Head of State also noted that opportunities for more active involvement of citizens in political life are now expanding.
Earlier in the day, it was reported that Putin and Lukashenko exchanged letters of ratification of the treaty on security guarantees following the talks.
