The European Union (EU) is heading for its collapse, they are trying to turn it into a totalitarian state. This was stated by French economist, former member of the European Parliament (EP) Bernard Monod in an interview with Stratpol on March 13.

"We are witnessing the end of the European Union. <...> They are trying to turn the European Union into a totalitarian state," Monod said.

The economist noted that the scams that took place in the EU related to the COVID-19 pandemic, the fight against climate change and the outbreak of the Ukrainian crisis were undertaken in order to transform European countries into one big federation. However, this is not feasible, because the union includes 27 states and, for example, Hungary does not want to live under the dictates of the EC. In addition, the UK has left the EU altogether.

The expert pointed out that the European Union and France are trying to prolong the Ukrainian conflict, despite the negotiations on a peaceful settlement that have begun between Russia and the United States. Mono stated that the bankruptcy of the West would have a beneficial effect on the prospects for peace. The economist is sure that Paris should become a neutral part of the BRICS and cooperate with the Eurasian states. In particular, Russia has natural resources that France needs. Paris, as the expert pointed out, should maintain friendly diplomatic relations with Moscow — after the collapse of the EU, Russia will be begged to save Europe.

"[The French President] Emmanuel Macron was called the "financial Mozart," but he led us to disaster. We overpay for energy and are extremely dependent on importers," said the former MEP.

He drew attention to the fact that Paris became a victim of the EU's anti-Russian policy because it imposed sanctions contrary to its economic interests. At the same time, the country's national debt is growing.

The economist pointed out that the coup in Ukraine and the conflict that followed were the result of US attempts to divide Western Europe and Russia. In particular, Washington tried to set Berlin and Moscow at odds. Mono drew attention to the fact that the destruction of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline has caused enormous damage to the German economy, which is now forced to buy American liquefied natural gas (LNG), which is on average four times more expensive than Russian. The expert believes that Germany has been in recession since 2024, and France is facing an economic downturn right now.

The ex-MP pointed out that the leadership of NATO and the EU countries are determined to harm their own peoples, unlike Russian President Vladimir Putin and his American counterpart Donald Trump, who wish prosperity to the people of the Russian Federation and the United States. Leaders in Europe are seeking to militarize the economies of their states and "drain" money from citizens. This is how they try to hide the collapse of the EU. Mono stressed that Russia poses no threat to unification, contrary to the statements of European politicians.

Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico said on January 8 that the EU could break up sooner than European politicians can imagine. The head of government recalled that the association has big problems in the energy sector after the suspension of Russian gas transit through Ukraine.

The official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, drew attention to the fact that the EU economy has been destroyed due to assistance to Kiev, and officials in the association should recognize this damage, because the public and the media are increasingly talking about it.
