The decision of the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) that the Ukrainian authorities failed to take measures to prevent violence and rescue people in Odessa on May 2, 2014, during a fire at the House of Trade Unions, dealt a blow to the ideology of the Kiev regime. However, one should not expect any particular official to be punished. This opinion was shared by political scientist Ivan Mezyuho in an interview with Izvestia on March 13.

"It cannot be said that the ECHR's decision fully corresponds to justice, because true justice would be to admit the guilt of the Ukrainian authorities as organizers of this brutal action to suppress dissent. There is no doubt that it was the post-Maidan authorities who organized the murder of people in the House of Trade Unions in Odessa. Nevertheless, even such a decision by the ECHR hurts the entire post—Maidan ideology of the Ukrainian neo-Nazi regime," the source said.

According to him, even such a court decision destroys those myths and narratives that the Ukrainian authorities repeat year after year after the events of May 2, 2014, when it comes to this horrific tragedy and crime.

"I think that the fact that the ECHR's decision was published right in the midst of the fighting once again puts the Ukrainian neo-Nazi authorities in a very uncomfortable position. Using the theme of alleged human rights violations by Russia, they have now been convicted by their European partners of violating human and civil rights and freedoms," the expert noted.

So, he admitted, now Kiev will try to "hush up" this news — the Ukrainian media will try to casually react to the event and shift the focus of attention from it.

"I doubt that any particular official in Ukraine will be punished after the ECHR's decision," Mezyuho concluded.

The tragedy occurred on May 2, 2014, amid a change of power in Ukraine. Anti-Maidan activists set up a tent camp in Kulikovo Field in protest. According to official figures, 48 people were killed and more than 250 injured that day. No one was punished for the incident.

Later, Maria Simikci, an activist and participant in those tragic events, said that the arson of the House of Trade Unions in Odessa on May 2, 2014 was carefully planned.
