Russia has expanded the list of EU citizens who are banned from entering the country amid the introduction of the 16th package of anti-Russian sanctions. This was confirmed on March 13 by a statement published on the website of the Russian Foreign Ministry.

"In response to these unfriendly actions, the Russian side has significantly expanded the list of representatives of European institutions and EU member states who are prohibited from entering the territory of our state," the statement said.

It is noted that we are talking about representatives of law enforcement agencies, government and commercial organizations of EU countries, as well as citizens who finance Ukraine.

In addition, EU and European Parliament deputies who support anti-Russian resolutions, as well as draft laws for the seizure of Russian assets, were subject to restrictions.

At the same time, the ministry assured that "hostile" sanctions against Moscow will not remain unanswered, and the Russian side will continue to adhere to the ideology of defending the national interests of the state.

Earlier in the day, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that Russia had adapted perfectly to the sanctions. Peskov also recalled that the measures imposed are illegal and must be lifted.

On February 24, the foreign ministers of the EU countries approved the 16th package of sanctions against Russia. 48 individuals and 35 organizations were added to the sanctions list. In addition, it was decided to ban 13 banks from accessing the SWIFT system.

On the same day, the EU's High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaya Kallas, said that the EU plans to prepare the 17th package of anti-Russian sanctions.
